DIY Dresser Makeover- How To Modernize an Old Dresser

DIY Dresser Makeover

How to modernize an old dresser

It’s time to modernize an old dresser. A little DIY that won’t cost you much, and is pretty straight forward! Those are two of the biggest things I am always aiming to share with y’all.

I HAVE ALSO PROVIDED A YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS! The link is at the end of the post.

I revamped an old dresser that I have had for years, using only milk paint and burlap.

Note- this post contains affiliate links, which basically means if you click a link for one of the products recommended and you purchase the item from that link, I get a very small commission. It is at no extra expense to you, but means a great deal to me! Please know I am super grateful if you do! 🙂

You can see my disclosure for more info.

LET’S GET STARTED

First things first, supplies I used

  • Rustoleum Milk Paint (ECLIPSE) This LINK will take you to the exact one I purchased.
  • Burlap  (this can also be purchased on Amazon, click HERE)
  • Paint brush and roller (you do not need anything special)
  • Staple Gun (this is the one I own and love)

Step 1 – Prep Dresser

Clean off your dresser with a damp cloth and let it air dry.

Step 2 – Main Area

Next, I removed all the drawers to make painting easier. I first used a paint brush to get into the areas the roller would not have been able to cover. Then, I used my roller to paint the rest. I did 2 coats for this project. I always use a clear matte spray to seal my furniture when I use milk or chalk paint. Here is a link to what I use Rust-oleum Chalked Matte Clear

Step 3 – Drawer Faces

I took all of the drawer faces off and cut my burlap to the size of the drawer face, making sure I made it slightly bigger in order to wrap and staple the burlap around the drawer face. When using your staple gun, make sure to pull the burlap tight so you will have a nice clean finish.

Step 4 – Reassembly

Screw your drawer faces back onto your dresser and you are finished!

You can add hardware to your dresser if you so like. I have not yet done this, but plan to in the future! If you are curious to see what type of hardware I add to mine, be sure to check out my Instagram page for the reveal!

As promised, here is a video of the process!
