Create a Gallery Wall on a Budget

Who doesn’t love a good gallery wall? The possibilities are endless and there is so much creative freedom! One thing I have noticed however, is the fact that they can get spendy! So, I thought it would be beneficial to put together some creative ways you can keep the cost down when creating a gallery wall within your home!

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Here is my first tip for keeping your gallery wall inexpensive. Think outside the box, you don’t have to use only picture art when filling it. Some ways I fill space are by adding hats or even a hook to hang a cute jean jacket. Consider items you already have within your home that might work well in the space! This way, you are essentially shopping your home and not spending any money. See picture below for an example of how I incorporated this strategy within my gallery wall.

CREATE YOUR OWN ART for YOUR GALLERY WALL

My next tip, create your own art! I know some people might feel overwhelmed when I mention this, but seriously, do NOT! Anyone can create art. Here are some super simple and approachable ideas.

  1. Head to Pinterest and find some inspiration! This will also help you figure out the style of art you are really drawn to. Example- I love minimalist, black/white art and have found so much inspiration from simply searching that on Pinterest. Check out the photo below for art I created, inspired my Pinterest.
All the of the art pieces I created were inspired by images found on Pinterest.

2. When it comes to art, don’t be afraid to use different textiles! One thing I love doing when I go thrifting is to find linens or old pillow covers that I love. I then cut them out to fit my frame. You can even add a photo with the linen to give it a matting feel. Another example might be an old rug that you are currently not using anymore, but still love the design on it, don’t be afraid to use that as art on your wall!

I cut a pillow cover I had found thrifting to fit inside a couple of my frames.

3. One thing I also love to look for when I go thrift, are baskets! They are great fillers for a gallery wall and I feel, mesh well with art.

All of these options are extremely budget friendly!

SHOP AROUND

Here is my last tip for creating a gallery wall on a budget. Shop around for your frames! Try not to just buy frames from the first store you stop at. Most of my frames have been really inexpensive frames that I have purchased from Hobby Lobby or Walmart. One thing that I love about Hobby Lobby, they have 50% off sales A LOT, and this is usually when I will buy my frames from them.

I have linked some frames that I have personally purchased and love from Walmart. Click photo to check them out!

Lastly, always keep your eyes peeled for frames when you go thrifting! You can save a lot of money on large frames this way! When looking at art at the thrift store, remember you can almost always remove the current art and replace it with your own! Or, if you like the design of the frame but not the color, spray paint will work wonders. I have personally done both of these things.

One final thing I want to mention that made completing this gallery wall SO MUCH easier- J-Hooks! I hung this entire gallery wall without a hammer or any other tools. You can check out these amazing hooks here. They hold up to 10-15lbs!! Game changer!

Creating a gallery wall doesn’t need to cost you an arm and a leg! Get creative and have fun with it! I hope this was helpful if you are thinking about creating a gallery wall within your own home! Thank you for stopping by!

Happy Creating,
